LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's volleyball team lost in five sets to visiting Suffolk University on Tuesday evening in the Leicester Gymnasium, with scores of 25-16, 25-18, 15-25, 18-25, 15-11.
The Hawks of Becker (7-8) were led by senior middle blocker Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I. / Coventry) with ten kills and three solo blocks. Junior setter Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) posted a team-best 13 set assists with five service aces, seven kills and nine digs. Sophomore libero Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va. / Mountain View) led the defensive effort with 25 digs and four service aces while sophomore middle blocker Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J. / Bronx) added eight kills.
The Rams of Suffolk (6-6) were led by sophomore Bridget Allison (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) with 13 kills. Sophomore Talia Lombardo (Windham, N.H. / Windham).
After falling short in the first two sets, the Hawks jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third off Landry's serve, ultimately taking the game. In the fourth, Becker again used a quick start to help win the set. But the hosts were ultimately unable to close out the fifth.
The Hawks of Becker are back in the court on Thursday when they travel to St. Joseph's College in Connecticut for a 7:00 p.m. match. The Rams of Suffolk will have a quick turnaround as they host Mount Ida College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
