Landry sets up Women's Volleyball for Playoff Run

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's volleyball team closed out their 2017 regular season with a three-set victory over visiting Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon at the Leicester Gymnasium.

The Hawks of Becker (12-15, 4-3 NECC) were led by senior setter Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) with 25 set assists, four service aces, six digs and three block assists. Sophomore outside hitter Micaela Rice (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) finished with ten kills, ten digs and three aces. Junior middle blocker Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J. / Bronx) added six kills, while sophomore outside hitter Gillian Criddle (Earleville, Md. / Bohemia Manor) contributed six kills and four total blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Sofia Cullina (Deep River, Conn. / Valley Regional) led the defense with 15 digs.

The Mariners of Mitchell (2-15, 2-5 NECC) were led by senior outside hitter Italia Krick (Griswold, Conn./Griswold), with seven kills and a .412 hitting percentage. Senior setter Lauren Tompkins (Prospect, Conn./Woodland) had 13 set assists and eight digs while freshman Marissa Sweeney (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) posted 11 digs.

Prior to the game, Landry was recognized by her teammates, coaches, family and Becker administrators as part of Senior Day. Landry has had an amazing four years playing for the Hawks, setting the school's set assist record and culminating with her being named a team captain this season. Although her time on the court may be coming to an end, she will forever be a part of the Becker family.

The Hawks of Becker have clinched the third seed in the upcoming NECC Championship Tournament. They will host an opponent to be determined on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs. The Mariners of Mitchell have likewise claimed a playoff spot in the upcoming tournament.
