Gould named NECC Player of the Week; first Hawk since 2008

Morgan Gould

LEICESTER, Mass. --- For the first time since 2008, a Hawk from the Becker College women's volleyball program has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week, as senior right-side Morgan Gould (North Attleboro, Mass. / Tri-County) was so recognized for the week ending September 2nd, 2019.

Gould was outstanding during Becker's season-opening tri-match against Mount Holyoke College and Bridgewater State University on Saturday. The senior team captain hit .327 with 31.5 point over nine sets as the Hawks went 2-0 on the day. Gould played well against the Lyons in the opener, leading the Hawks with four service aces to go along with seven kills, 14 digs and two block assists. She held serve in the last five points in the first set, then late in the fifth helped Becker reel off six straight points off her serve to help put the match away. But Gould truly shined against the Bears in the second match, hitting .519 with a team-high 15 kills and four service aces. She also posted 23 total digs on the day.

Gould was also named the Becker College Athlete of the Week for the same period, the first honoree of the 2019-2020 academic year. She is the first Hawk to be named NECC Player of the Week for women's volleyball since former Becker legend Rachel Pinak did it back on October 27th, 2008, during the NECC's first season in existence.

In addition, freshman outside hitter Teddie Flynn (Amesbury, Mass. / Essex Tech) was also named the NECC Rookie of the Week.  Flynn had a sensational debut against Mount Holyoke on Saturday, hitting .522 with 14 kills and eight digs. For the day, the rookie led the Hawks with 3.00 kills per set and a .377 hitting percentage. As of press time, Flynn leads the NECC in kills and kills per set.

Flynn is only the third Hawk in the history of the program to be named the NECC Rookie of the Week, joining current teammate, sophomore libero Joanna Bampi (Peabody, Mass. / Peabody Veterans), who was recognized for week ending September 16th, 2018, and former Becker great Marissa Turner, who was recognized as the week's top rookie for week ending September 29th, 2013.

The Hawks are back on the court on Thursday when they travel to Fitchburg State for a 6:00 p.m. match against the Falcons.
